Pool Closing and Winterization in Omaha

What pool winterization protects

Stone pool deck with seating below a modern home with covered pool in Norfolk, NE

Plumbing lines

Every return, skimmer and main drain line is blown clear and plugged. A single line left wet cracks the deck.

Pump and filter

Drain plugs pulled, baskets emptied, filter drained and left open so nothing holds water.

Heater and salt cell

Heaters are drained and cells removed and stored. Both are expensive things to replace over a frozen ounce of water.

Water features

Waterfalls, spillways and deck jets have their own lines. They freeze first and get forgotten most.

Winter chemistry

Balanced and dosed for a closed pool so you open to clear water instead of a swamp.

Cover fit

Cover installed tight with anchors checked, so wind and snow load do not stretch it.

Common winterization mistakes

Closing too late

One hard overnight freeze on a wet line is all it takes. We close on a schedule, not on the first snow.

Draining the pool

Never drain a vinyl pool for winter. The liner shrinks and groundwater can lift the whole structure.

Skipping the cover pump

Standing water and ice on a cover stretches fabric and pulls anchors. A cover pump costs almost nothing.

Ask us a winterization question

When should I close in Omaha?

Late September through October. Once nights hit freezing regularly, you are gambling with your plumbing.

Should I lower the water?

Below the skimmer, yes, but never drain the pool. We set the correct level as part of the service.

Do I need a cover pump?

On a solid cover, absolutely. On mesh it drains itself, but check the anchors after heavy snow.

What if we get an early freeze?

Call us. Running the pump continuously keeps water moving until we can get there.

Is closing worth paying for?

A missed line is a cracked deck and a spring repair bill. This is the visit we would never skip.
