Salt Water Pools in Omaha

How a salt water pool works

Pool with loungers and umbrella on a concrete deck in Omaha, NE

It still runs on chlorine

A salt cell makes chlorine out of the salt already in the water. The pool is sanitized the same way. You are just not carrying jugs.

The water feels softer

This is the part owners actually notice, and it is a real benefit. Salt water has a smoother feel against skin.

The salt level is low

Around a tenth of seawater, closer to a contact lens solution. Most swimmers cannot taste it.

Cells are a wear part

A cell runs three to seven years depending on hours and how well the water is kept. Plan on replacing it, not buying it once.

Some materials mind it

Natural stone coping, untreated metal and older plaster wear faster around salt. That is a materials question more than a water one.

It is not less work

The chlorine makes itself. Everything else about owning a pool stays exactly where it was.

What we do on a salt pool

  • Check the cell condition and its output
  • Look over coping, stone and metal for salt wear
  • Hold the salt level where the cell wants it
  • Clean the cell on schedule so it lasts its full life
  • Watch the cover and its hardware for corrosion
  • Hold the water to the TrueBlue standard
  • Replace the cell when it is genuinely done
  • Tell you what the system costs to run

Why we do not put salt on a new build

We are protecting what we just built

A new pool comes with coping, stone, fixtures and a cover we specified and installed. Salt shortens the life of several of them, and ours is the name on that work.

The gain is real but narrow

Softer feeling water is worth wanting. It is not worth taking years off the hardscape sitting around the pool to get it.

What we set up instead

Every pool we build comes with TrueBlue water. The same silky feel, without asking the stone and the metal to live in salt.

If you already have a salt pool

We service it, we keep the cell healthy, and we hold the water to the TrueBlue standard. That is what makes an existing salt system run better and last longer.

TrueBlue

Clear enough to forgetit is even treated.

TrueBlue is the water standard on every pool we build, and it is what we set up on a salt pool too.

Salt water pool questions

Ask us a salt water pool question

Is a salt pool chlorine-free?

No. The cell makes chlorine from salt. The difference is that you are not storing and handling it yourself.

Does the water taste salty?

Barely. The level sits around a tenth of seawater, closer to a contact lens solution.

Will salt damage my deck?

Sealed concrete and pavers hold up well. Some natural stone, untreated metal and older plaster wear faster, which is what we look at first.

Why will you not put salt on a new build?

Because we installed the stone, the coping and the cover, and we stand behind them. Salt takes life off several of those.

Will you convert my existing pool?

We will talk it through and look at your coping and fixtures first. On a pool we built, we will tell you plainly that we would rather not.

What do you do for the salt pools you service?

We keep the cell healthy and hold the water to the TrueBlue standard, which is what makes an existing salt system work better and last longer.
